T-Mobile appears to be experiencing issues.

Customers report their inability to make or receive phone calls, although the data appears to be unaffected. Some customers say that text messages are also affected.

DownDetector, which collects service outage reports from users, indicates that a significant outage is running. It is not clear how widespread the problem is, but at the time of writing this report, T-Mobile was heading across the U.S. on Twitter. (t mobile)

It appears that service outages started around 9-10 AM Pacific Time (1-12 PM ET) on Monday.

In our own tests in New York and Seattle, we found that making calls from T-Mobile will fail almost immediately after making the call. We also found that the cellular service on our phones was intermittent, with bars sometimes dropping to zero or losing access to high-speed data.

In April, Sprint and T-Mobile completed its merger, with $ 26 billion, making the merged cell network the third largest carrier in the U.S. after AT&T and Verizon. (sprint t-mobile merger)

A T-Mobile spokesperson did not immediately comment on the outage, but T-Mobile's chief technology officer Neville Ray tweeted:

Others have reported problems with other networks. Upon arrival, AT&T and Verizon spokespeople (which owns TechCrunch) said their networks were operating normally. Sprint hasn't yet responded to a request for comment.

There is no evidence that power outages were caused by an electronic attack. Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare, a global content delivery network, said in a tweet on Twitter that the company hadn't seen a big rise in internet traffic during service outages. (the new t-mobile)

A news report said that Level 3, the main backbone of the fiber network that cell phone networks rely on for sending calls and messages, suffers from a break, which could explain the network down. But a spokesman for Century Link, which has Level 3, said there is no current outage in its network.

Cell network interruptions on a large scale are rare but they do occur. In 2017, CenturyLink suffered a network failure affecting all major U.S. carriers and 911 fiber-based emergency services for calling. In some US counties, officials have sent emergency alerts to cell phone users to warn of 911 service interruptions. (t-mobile one plus)
